PLTW is the nation's leading science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) solution in over 8,000 schools across the U.S. LCO School was awarded a $40,000 grant from the Kern Foundation to start and grow a program for 3 years. The grant required the school to become certified.
LCO became a certified PLTW school in 2012 after a rigorous program review and site visit from Marv Bollman, Associate Affiliate Director, Milwaukee School of Engineering.
For each course, if students pass an end of course exam provided by PLTW, they will be issued 3 credits from MSOE (stanine score = 7) or St. Cloud State University (stanine score = 4). A student graduated with 9 college credits from PLTW courses last year!
Some schools are giving money and/or preference to students who have been involved in a PLTW program. It is important to note their participation on college applications.
