Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe School Ojibwemowin Program

The Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe School offers a unique blend of learning opportunities for its students.  The school is comprised of two educational tracks that allow students and families to choose the level of cultural engagement they are comfortable in seeking.  The K-12 program has been in place for over 40 years and continues to evolve to meet state and federal education mandates.  The Waadookodaading Ojibwe Language Institute partnered with the K-12 school in 2014 and operates largely as a school within a school.  

The kindergarten through 12th grade track offers students a comprehensive education in traditional western academic subject matter through curriculum aligned with the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards. Ojibwemowin pull out classes range from 30 minutes to 45 minutes per day, with 2 credits required for graduation.   In addition to general education subjects students receive instruction in Ojibwe language, culture and history each day at every level through separate courses such as traditional arts and crafts and traditional music, designed to highlight the impact of cultural knowledge and skills. 

ALL teachers, staff and employees continue to support Ojibwe language learning, usage and fluency. We take every opportunity to speak the language in EVERY class, EVERY day.
