New Board Approved Cell Phone Policy

January 17th, 2018

Boozhoo Parents and Guardians:

As a result of the increasing distractions that cell phones and other devices in classrooms continue to have, and in the interest of providing a safe and focused educational environment, the Cell phone/electronic device usage policy for the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe School has been amended.  The revised policy is as follows:

Cell Phone/Electronic Device use Policy (Cell Phone, MP3 Player, IPod, CD Player, etc.)

Cell phones/Electronic Devices will be permitted only before and after school and at lunchtime. Cell phones/electronic devices are not permitted in classrooms at any time.  Any unauthorized use of cell phones or electronic devices will result in the following actions:

1st offense: Device will be confiscated and returned at the end of the school day.

2nd offense: Device will be confiscated and returned at the end of the school day.  Parent/guardian will be notified.

3rd offense: Device will be confiscated; parent/guardian must come to school to get the phone back.

Repeated offenses will automatically result in confiscation, parent/guardian retrieval of device, and an in school suspension. The School is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged devices.

The revised policy was approved by the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe School Board and will go into effect on January 22nd, which is the start of the second semester.  Questions or concerns regarding the policy can be directed to the Jessica Hutchison, K-12 Principal/School Director.

Sincerely,

Jessica Hutchison
