Welcome

We began in the fall of 1975 with a K-3 school nestled in a quiet village on the shores of the Chippewa Flowage, and expanded, in January 1976, to K-12 amidst a mass walkout of students from the nearby public school.

One of our original K-3 teachers is still with us, while grandchildren of our first students explore our halls every fall. We have grown from classes in a remodeled factory in a remote section of the reservation to a sprawling complex with NASA connections.

While our protests now are for the continued love, kindness, and concern for our students, we still express the hope and idealism that the formation of a new school called for. We seek good lives for our children and for their great-grandchildren, the seventh generation from the first generation of Ojibwe who walked the gravel roads to class that first fall.

We are preparing our students for life in this millennium while preserving the language and culture from the many generations of Ojibwe people who have lived here.
